Record the message in your own voice

Published on

Our operator has a lovely voice, we'll admit it. But some messages only make sense in one voice: yours. Grandma doesn't want a narrator wishing her a happy birthday. She wants to recognize her grandkid by the first syllable.

Now she can. On Classic, besides typing your message, you can record it.

How it works

On the create page, choose "Record with my voice". The browser asks for your microphone, you speak the message the way you'd say it on the phone, up to 90 seconds, and you hear the result right away. Not happy with it? Record again as many times as you like, before paying.

On the call itself, the ritual that keeps the surprise from feeling like a prank stays exactly the same: the operator opens the line, introduces herself, and says who sent the message. Only then does your recording play. Nobody is spooked by an unknown number, and the surprise lands at the right moment.

What stays the same

A recorded message goes through the same review as a written one: personal messages only, and ads, collections, or pranks never make it onto the line. The price doesn't change either, and the written mode stays right where it has always been, for those who prefer the house voice.

If the microphone fails or the room is too noisy, no drama: type the message and the operator reads it for you, like she always has.

When to use it

The apology that needs the crack in your voice. The birthday song sung off-key, exactly the way your family knows it. The "I miss you" that no narrator could say the way you say it.

Record a message. The line is yours.
